DMB, East Side Mario's Take High Honours (10/26/2012)
Submitted by: Mike Flynn After several weekends of rain-outs, the MTFL came to a successful conclusion on Saturday October 6 on the Halifax Commons. After an early round-robin loss to Wise Owls and a last minute victory over Archway Headhunters, East Side Mario's came roaring back to win the Wild Card shoot out, posted a slim victory over regular season winners Halifax FC, then edged Cluett Insurance 8-6 to win the Division 2 championship game. Dartmouth Metals & Bottles defeated AIL Hurricanes in the semi-final before scoring 19 unanswered points after a tied first half to beat Ten Years After, the team that had earlier in the season ended their amazing winning streak at 106 games, to win their impressive 7th straight MTFL Division I Championship. Congratulations to all for another great touch football season. League awards will take place Saturday Oct 27 @ Bubba Rays. First Playoff Weekend Rained Out (09/22/2012)
Submitted by: Mike Flynn The high rainfall experienced this week has pushed the MTFL Playoffs to Sept 29/30. Designed to finish in 2 days, the playoff tournament will feature 3 groups of 3 teams in each of Division I and II, with each mini group winners and a Wild Card advancing to semi finals. Submitted by: Mike Flynn The St. John's Hurricanes, members of the Coors Light St. John's Touch Football League http://www.touch-football.com/, are coming to Halifax October 15-16 for a couple of games against the MTFL. On Saturday, October 15, they'll be playing Darkside at 1:00PM on the Burnside Turf, and on Sunday they're up against Park West on the Commons at 10:30AM. Submitted by: Mike Flynn Under the cool sunny skies of Halifax Commons, Dartmouth Metals and Bottles defeated a game Moncton Blackhawks squad 46-0 and 41-14 on Saturday September 10. Thanks to our New Brunswick friends for making the trip, we hope to be able to reciprocate next season and to even revive old rivalries in the near future by re-establishing an inter provincial tournament much like the old Natal Day weekend event. |
